Feet and Away
Welcome to Feet and Away – the new home of all things shinty. From interviews to articles, Feet and Away is producing multimedia shinty content in a fresh and innovative format.
I’m Duncan Gorman, a 21 year old student studying Journalism at Edinburgh Napier University and I’ve played shinty all my life for Newtonmore Camanachd Club. I have a devoted passion for the sport and still play weekly for Newtonmore second team. Having an eye for both the media and shinty, I’ve always been keen to indulge on anything where the two collide. After struggling to satisfy myself in my search for multimedia shinty content, I’ve attempted to fill the gap and hopefully entertain as I go.
Although my shinty career hasn’t quite reached the bright lights of BBC Alba just yet, I have high hopes for the future. As well as playing for Newtonmore I’m captaining the Edinburgh University Shinty Club for the second year running. I spend a lot of time playing wing centre, although I do tend to venture up the park towards the forward line if at all possible and will hopefully be doing so in Newtonmore’s first team before my retirement.
I’m Somhairle Thomson, a 16 years old student at Kingussie High and I’ve played shinty with Newtonmore Camanachd Club for almost all of my life. I progressed through primary to U14, and eventually into the U17, where I still have another season to play. I also broke into the Newtonmore second team when I was 13 where I’ve now become a regular starter in the forward line.
I’m Nathan Whear, a 23 year old Mechanical Engineering Student in my fourth year of studies at the University of Edinburgh.
I first started playing Shinty in primary school, and quickly merged into the Kinlochshiel under 14s team. When I was 17 I broke into the first team, and got some premier league experience, but soon after moved to university where it became difficult to train, meaning that I spent most of my time with the 2nd team. After 3 years of travelling to Kinlochshiel, I joined Glasgow Mid Argyll at the start of this season where I’m currently playing for them in the National Division.
Im Aidan Woods, a 17 year old photographer who enjoys capturing the heat of the moment through my lens. I got involved in photography through my Grandfather and specialise in sport photography but I’m known to take pictures of as many near by events as possible.
